Our story…

Childhood friends and neighbors who traveled the world on separate journeys, each leading to an unexpected rendezvous. It didn’t take long before we were exploring the world on new adventures together, sharing a journey better than we could have ever imagined apart…

McKenzie and Matt met in the 5th grade while attending Highland Park Elementary and lived only 2 blocks from one another in Lee’s Summit. After High school graduation, McKenzie attended the Kansas City Art Institute to pursue her creative passions. Matt attended the University of Missouri and studied engineering. Both graduated and started careers in their fields of study, Matt moved to Texas, and McKenzie traveled the globe experiencing new cultures and cuisine.

A short 9 years after HS graduation, the two were reunited celebrating an old friends birthday in Westport - sparking a courtship and interest in the adults each had become. McKenzie quickly learned how driven, funny, kind, and entirely too smart Matt is for his own good. Matt remembered how kind and caring McKenzie was, but now she was a beautiful, strong woman. He was blown away by her success professionally, at a career fit perfectly for her passions. From the start just being with McKenzie was easy - conversation was natural and always engaging.

Their first adventure together was to Austin City Limits Music Festival in October 2018, a weekend full of new memories together. Next, they upgraded to International status on a trip to Santo Domingo. The DR was filled with lots of Spanish language interactions, forcing McKenzie and Matt to rely on each other while navigating a menu or complicated drink order. McKenzie joined Matt in Dublin during September 2019 for roadtrip vacation around Ireland; taking in all the sights, experiences, and Guinness they could. Up next is San Juan, Puerto Rico for some sun and surf ahead of their planned destination celebration in September 2023.

McKenzie moved in with Matt to their house in June 2020, amidst a global pandemic and new normals vastly different from old routines. Through it all, they were more certain than ever in each other and the bond they shared as a team. “The Harrison Hood” has benefited from significant style and furniture upgrades throughout since McKenzie’s arrival, with the outdoor landscaping remaining under Matt’s control. Matt proposed on a Tuesday in April on the porch of their Brookside home.

Discovering their shared love of dancing all night, traveling the world, luxury automobiles, and one of a kind ambition – the universe pushed them together. Four years later, they are best friends, lovers, and partners in this crazy thing called life!

Let’s make it official!
